How to Setup Gmail SMTP Settings for Email Clients

Gmail is a free web-based email service provided by Google Inc. It also has its premium service. For instance, Google Drive is the cloud computing it provides users. However, users will only get 15 GB free cloud storage space. For more, they will be charged monthly. You can also configure Gmail to your email clients. With the Gmail SMTP settings, you can receive your mail on your favourite email application. You can also send email from the desktop email client. This way, you can avoid using the web browser. This will also enable you to save your emails offline.

How to Setup Gmail SMTP Settings on Email Clients?

  1. First launch any email client like Outlook, etc.
  2. Next, go on to Add Account.
    • For Microsoft email clients, go to the File tab.
    • This is on the top of your screen.
    • Then, under Account Information, the Add Account button is right there.
  3. Next, select Manually configure server settings or additional server types. So click Next to proceed.
  4. Select POP or IMAP after that. Or there might be the Internet email option in some cases and then click Next.
  5. So the Internet Email Settings will load. Now provide all the asked information in their respective fields.
    • Type in your Name (preferably your Full Name).
    • After that, type in your email address ([email protected]).
    • The above two is for the User Information area. So proceed to type in for your Server Information.
    • Select IMAP first.
    • Next, type in imap.gmail.com for the Incoming mail server.
    • Then, type in smtp.gmail.com for the Outgoing mail server.
    • Finally, type in the password for your Gmail address. You can tick next to Remember password.
    • This will conclude the first part of your Gmail SMTP settings setup.gmail settings
  6. In the same window, click on More Settings… button. This is on the bottom right corner of the window.
    • Click on the Outgoing Server tab. Then, tick next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Select Use same Settings as my incoming mail server.
    • Then, go to the Advanced tab. Put in 995 or 993 for Incoming server (IMAP). Choose SSL for the Incoming server encrypted connection. Put in 587 or 465 for Outgoing server (SMTP). Choose SSL for Outgoing server encrypted connection.

  7. To proceed on the next step, click on Next on the bottom.
  8. The Test Account Settings pop-up will appear.
  9. Outlook will then attempt to login to your account.
  10. If the test succeeds then you will receive the test email in the email client inbox.
  11. This is an indication of the success of your Gmail SMTP settings setup on your email client.

You can always use the web browser to sign into your Gmail account. For aid, click on the Gmail Sign in link provided. If offline, the main advantage is you can look at old emails. This is the main advantage of setting up Gmail SMTP settings on your email clients.

With just one Google Account, you can access Gmail, YouTube, and other affiliated sites. In an email, you can attach up a file which is up to 25 MB. How To Sign Up for Gmail:

  1. To get started on creating your new Gmail account, you need to open the site.
  2. Hence, on your browser go to the web address – www.gmail.com.
  3. When the Google Sing In page loads, you should click on the ‘Create account‘ link.
  4. The ‘Create your Google Account‘ page should load where your details Gmail Sign Upare required.
  5. Start off by filling in your First and Last name in the Name column in the respective fields.
  6. Type in an appropriate username for your Gmail account.
  7. Google will show if the username is available or give you a list of options if it not.
  8. Once, your username is created, type in your desired password.
  9. You would have to type in the same password in the ‘Confirm your Password’ box below.
  10. The above-mentioned box will only appear when your desired password is typed in.
  11. Fill in your Birthday information by first selecting the Month.
  12. In the corresponding field, type in your day and year of birth in numbers.
  13. Choose your Gender whether you are Female, Male or Other.
  14. Type in your mobile number which can be used to recover and verfiy your account.
  15. You can type in a current email address just in case but it is not compulsory.
  16. In the ‘Type the text‘ box, type in the code you see in the given image.
  17. Tick the box next to the ‘I agree to Google Terms of Service….‘.
  18. Click on the ‘Next step‘ button at the end to continue.
  19. Then, you will be asked to upload a profile picture which you can skip.
  20. Now your Gmail sign up will be completed so you can use your Gmail login anytime.

How To Login to Gmail:

  1. On your web browser, open a New Tab if your browser is already running.
  2. In the address bar, type in the web address – www.gmail.com.
  3. In order to load the web page, press the Enter key on your keyboard.
  4. If a Gmail Sign in is not saved on that browser, you will be asked to enter your gmail address.
  5. Click on the Next Step button to continue in the next step of your login process.gmail login
  6. You should be directed to the page where you will be required to type in password.
  7. When performing your Gmail sign in, you should not tick the ‘Keep me signed in‘ option.
  8. That should be done if you frequently use a shared computer or laptop.
  9. Finally, click on the ‘Sign in’ button on the bottom to login to gmail.

Protect your Gmail sign in by creating a strong password and not disclose it. Since your password is case sensitive, remember to use Caps Lock only for Uppercase letters. For mobile phones, you can easily download the Android and iOS previous of the Gmail app. Your Gmail Sign In can be secured by password protecting the app on your phones.
